neil landstrumm began producing in the early 90s after moving to edinburgh from inverness. initially producing within a variety of groups often with christian vogel, he began his solo production in 1993 influenced by the sheffield school of bleep as well as electro and miami bass. landstrumm s unique sound soon caught the ears of a wide variety of some of the worlds finest electronic labels and he went onto record for tresor and planet mu as well as his string of ep s and album for peacefrog. his playful sense of humor and penchant toward unpredictable song structures and bizarre sounds have continued to offer humour in a world often dominated by serious minimalism. threesome features landstrumm s three peacefrog ep s originally released between early 1995 and 1996. highlights include the minimalist chicago jack track takks, dancefloor destroyers such as swing / jerk and blam the target, along with the off kilter raw stomping funk of sniff and destroy. to this day landstrumm remains one of the true innovators in uk techno.

super deep african / new age / minimalistic / ambient crossover from cabo verde - not the typical record, a beautiful listening experience check! originally conceived as a book of 6 poems that developed into a record released independently in 1986, universo da ilha sits at the cross-section of many different genres. connecting contemporary new age and ambient minimalist movements with traditional west african and cape verdean elements from the past (griot voices, djembe rhythms, melancholic morna), vasco constructed his own universe where, in spite of the isolation of the island at the time, he transcended barriers and created a global record that was ahead of its time vasco used his own synths and drum machines, and with the help of a small group of friends (tey gonçalves on percussion, neney’s amazing griot voice, luis morais on sax and flute), he recorded this not-balearic-but-atlantic ambient odyssey on a 16-channel peavey mixer directly to an akai tape recorder without overdubs.

reissue of this rare nigerian/ghana funk record. incl. the jam african soul power which you might have heard getting spins in the clubs. incl. a poster+extensive liner notes. fela kuti believed the identical twins of basa basa to possess magical powers, bringing luck and prosperity. fela co-produced their first lp, and played on their second. but the wondrous powers of the nyaku twins from ghana reached their summit on their third album, which basa basa recorded with producer and multi-instrumentalist themba t-fire matebese in nigeria. this collaboration resulted in the bewitching homowo album, which combines the earthy mood of the twins and the futuristic vision of themba matebese as well as the hot and sweaty afro disco sound of lagos, where the album was recorded. from the blue title track homowo to the afro disco floor burner african soul power, the album makes a consistent listen. amsterdam based dj collective and vinyl shop vintage voudou makes the highly sought-after lp available again after almost four decades, working in close collaboration with the artists.

approaching complexity is tangent’s sophomore album release for n5md, a label that has seen accomplished releases from the likes of near the parenthesis, bvdub, and loess among others. throughout its nine offerings, the record features a gorgeous contemplative piano that hangs in the air amidst static clicks and dense atmospheres. its delicate touch feels both melancholic and stirring, as exemplified on tracks “equilibrium i (ii & ii)” and “awaken.” the latter cut is a fascinating work comprised of nearly inaudible whisper-song vocals and swelling ambience, its waves a thick froth of a toppled surf underneath tickled ivory. like the rise and fall of a heavy chest, this sound leads to the track’s conclusion, an elongated departure of breath.
a similar ending can be heard on the track “redundancy” which is complemented by the official video premiering at igloo magazine. jittering frames of concrete grass animations are edited to the rhythmic snippy percussion. this is juxtaposed by images of ice cascading off a rocket launch in slow motion and vapor in reverse. see below.

after many years of steady work bristol-based artist joefarr created a well-respected profile on his own, he is now joining the label showing a side of his works that many never saw probably, and others always knew but never saw on a record. development always takes time, and time is nothing when the art comes out in his true form. this is “dedicate” - a very important record that represents something deeper than a peace of wax, label boss emmanuel took the big responsibility to remix the title track and make his own view of joefarr’s dedication.

vaudou game, the french afro-funk band, is back from togo with a brand new album called otodi (out oct 26th 2018).
otodi was the name of the recording studio in lomé, closed in 1987, and which peter solo, the band leader and his crew reopened during the spring 2018 to record these all analog 13 brilliant songs.

california flight project is a well known name for many record collectors because of the ppu 7 release of california flight, and the self released cd-r’s from the front man, jerry j. finally preservation records is very proud to present to you the first official release on vinyl of their early tracks 79-81. fantastic modern soul from berkley california. licenced, remastered, with new cover and full credits makes this a collectors item. only 500 pressed.

killer unreleased mid 70’s blue eyed soul/aor - between the sessions at wishborne sound studios, the session musicians terry woodford, clayton ivey, muscle shoals horns among others, got down to record some of the finest funky soul and aor. they took the name mirage, aiming for stardom. unfortunately no album was ever released and many tracks went on the shelves in the studio. over 40 years later, preservation records are releasing two of their finest tracks on an exclusive 7”. only 500 pressed.

pushing at the edges which define techno, afro and deep house these three tracks bring fresh heat to the dancefloor, creating an ethereal mood whilst delivering maximum power and energy. if paired down, minimal electronic percussive sounds are your thing, lead track ligai will tick all the boxes. stina follows with driving, syncopated beats and a killer pan-pipe riff to hook you in. closing the record sand brings a deeper, atmospheric track loaded with floating m1 textures, warm bass and spirited percussion fills. all in all a highly effective and inventive slice of wax with a voguish twist to groove to.

‘you can’ stares directly into the haze and the strobes of the transformative night-out documented throughout gabe gurnsey’s debut lp, ‘physical’. undoubtedly one of the record’s most outright hedonistic moments, ‘you can’ finds gabe cheekily intoning an invitation to dance, get high, or both, assisted by a deeply trippy sonic atmosphere and a seductive, twilight bassline.
in the spirit of classic extended edits, the ‘extended dub’ version unpicks and expands on each of these elements, retaining the solid groove of the original while transforming it into a heady dancefloor tool. a staple of electro for the past two decades, the hacker meanwhile continues his recent hot streak with his remix of ‘you can’. firmly executed with his usual cyber-militancy, his simple but effective reimagining is littered with elasticated synth stabs, urgent oscillations and an audible desire to transform gurnsey himself into a man-machine.

hot shots of reggae is an recording on which a bunch of popular reggae songs are brought together. the album was originally released in the autumn of 1970 and compiled by the legendary chinese-jamaican producer leslie kong. he had enjoyed many hits in in europe and selected some of the true pearls from the reggae music to shine on the album. the album includes the maytals hit monkey man, the sparkling so much love by joe white and the fine rythms of ken boothe’s freedom street. the influential producer leslie kong once discovered jimmy cliff and recorded him on his own record label beverley’s. in 1962 he recorded bob marley’s first single and through the 60’s het became known as the producer of many big artists, like desmond dekker and joe higgs. he died of a heart attack, at the age of 38, in august 1971.

the jamaican sonia pottinger was once called “the most important jamaican woman involved in music business”. dancing down orange street is a collection of some of her famous productions for different artists. the album captures the moment when rocksteady transformed into reggae by speeding up a little and moving towards a more jerky and less smooth musical palette. famous singers as delano stewart and ken boothe are present on the album with multiple tracks. the vocal trio the melodians (known for their hit “rivers of babylon”) provide a couple of beautifull songs. even after all those years (released for the first time in 1969) the compilation remains a treasure of showcasing some of the finest songs produced by sonia. sonia pottinger was married to music producer lyndon pottinger and started to record musicians in 1996. during the late 60’s she produced songs for joe white, the melodians and toots & the maytals.

heat in two belgian flavors! check out the zaïrian electronic dance floor banger “nakombe nga” by les choc stars. comes with the dope, largely unheard belgium new beat version on the flip from the teknokrat s. both tracks were originally released in 1989 and this is the first time they appear together on 12-. reissue co-curated with renowned record fiend john gomez. the music on this winning double-sider was written by tony baron and gery françois, two belgian producers that were involved in several musical projects on the new beat scene in the 1980s. they worked under many aliases and recorded the teknokrat’s haunting “what did she say?” at the famous studio madeleine in brussels in 1989. prompted by jean martin from espera records, baron adapted the music into a further two songs to be released that year, virginity’s melancholic “the key”, and the surprising but ear catching collaboration with the label’s soukous stars, ben nyamabos les choc stars du zaire. it is still a mystery how the seeds were planted for the one-off pairing that culminated in the electronic soukous bomb “nakombe nga”. what is certain is that it is set to light up dancefloors worldwide.

this is a record about a parting of ways. it is dedicated to the one who has been left behind and the one who left.

heart to hearts 12th record comes to us by way of berlin with westcoast goddess. following up his heavily favorited -springtime forever released earlier this year on sweden’s tasteful house imprint omena records. the goddess will resonate well with house heads with love for the east coast house sound. packed with punchy drum beats and full spectrum instrumentation, these tunes are designed to lift ones soul and turn any frown upside down.

the flamboyant and off-kilter title track from rones latest album, mirapolis is one of the last solo tracks that the producer composed in the spring of 2017: its one of the rare tracks on the album for which i thought about the live performance. while putting the final touches to it in the studio, i imagined myself at festivals via memories of previous tours. i wanted to record a festive track, which completely stands by its funfair vibe. with this new four-track ep (including three remixes), combined with a new video by aurélie castex, rone extends the carnival of electronic cultures of his latest musical citadel to the dancefloor – and our screens. johannes brecht, shadow craftsman of the hamburg label diyanamics studios, offers a refined reading throbbing with cerebral pulsations. appropriating the main theme in a subtle way, coated with multiple harmonic layers, his textures alternate white noise with organic basses that builds up to a delightfully classical cello outro. german-based figurehead of the south american scene, comeme label boss and founding member of the late closer music project, matias aguayo, has never ceased throughout his career to set off little revolutions on the planet of demanding dancefloors. playful and wild, aguayo sweeps in with a ritornello of chiptune sounds and orchestral arrangements, washing it over with a huge wave of analog synthesizers that destroys everything in its path. french techno scene boss laurent garnier embraces the original piece in all its meticulousness and its psychedelic lifeblood. a hypnotic and mischievous loop infiltrates itself without warning into the reptilian cells of the listeners brain.

hilltown disco are back with another attention-grabbing release. the a-side sees the return of the duo who can do-no-wrong, crossmods with an electro-masterclass that takes you on an out-of-this-world journey, followed by a clean-cut, snappy remix of the crossmods track by the belgium act, datawave. flip-over the record and we have acid-genius chris moss acid contributing a re-mastered version of his beautifully-chaotic acidic-banger, the mossquito. continuing the acid theme, dundee producer ansata gives us a real 303 work-out that is guaranteed to fill any dance floor. last but not least, crossover network join the hilltown disco family with a high energy, banger with an iconic old-school electro vocal though out to complete the release.
